Hixwood's High-Quality Stainless Steel Production
Our stainless steel coils contain a special coating that protects them against corrosion. They're used in various applications and industries because they're highly durable and can withstand the elements. Some of the stainless steel coils we produce at Hixwood include:
Hot-Rolled Steel Coil
Hot-rolled steel coil is processed steel (recrystallized at a temperature above 1,700 degrees Fahrenheit), to make it easier to work on different applications. A billet, or a huge piece of metal, is heated and compressed to produce a hot-rolled coil. It then passes through a roller to be cut in uniform sizes of hot-rolled coils. They're mainly used in automobile parts and railroad equipment and as I-beams.
Cold-Rolled Steel Coil
Cold-rolled steel is made from a hot-rolled coil that passes through another set of rollers, compressed into different shapes. It's more expensive than hot-rolled steel because it undergoes a more labor-intensive process. Cold-rolled steel is more durable than hot-rolled steel and typically has better finishes. It's used in home appliances, metal furniture and aerospace structures because it doesn't shrink.
Steel Flat Stock and Blanks
Also called a ground flat stock, this stainless steel bar is square or rectangular and available in alloy and cold-finished steel. It's available in different lengths and can also be custom-cut. Flat stock is often used as gate latches, punches and stripper plates throughout various industries such as manufacturing and agriculture. Steel blanks are pre-hardened plates used in different applications such as engine components, roofing and circuit boards. You can also use them for interior signage or real estate signs.
Slit Coil
Also called slit strips, stainless steel slit coils are narrow strips of coil cut into different sizes and widths, depending on the particular application. We produce a slit coil by first hot rolling a huge slab of stainless steel into a thinner sheet, cold rolling it into thinner sheets. Our team then uses a machine that cuts the coil into different sizes. Our slit coils are commonly used in electronics, as construction materials, telecommunications equipment, automotive parts, and medical instruments.
Galvanized and Galvalume Substrate
The roofing industry uses galvanized and galvalume substrates in wall systems and metal roofing. Galvalume substrates are coated with zinc and platinum, while galvanized substrates are only coated with zinc alloy. Galvalume is commonly used in homes, government buildings, hospitals, and warehouses, while galvanized is commonly used in stamped metal shingles or structures for animal enclosures. Both are corrosion-resistant, but galvalume lasts longer than galvanized substrates.
